Here it is!
the

DTIYS Challenge March 2025

This is unlike any other month we’ve ever had. The winner of this month’s challenge will be forever immortalized in ink on @nickjamesillustrator ! For anyone who doesn’t know, Nick James is a Founding member of the Robot Army. He created and designed the Draw Me A Robot website, he’s won DTIYS Challenges, and most recently helped fund and put together our very first DMAR Deck.

Nick means a lot to me, and I would love to see everyone show up for him this month.

BONUS POINTS – Nick (and me too!!) would love to see everyone go to the DMAR Website and create your own FREE Profile on the Robot Army page. We made it FOR YOU, and while a lot of you have taken advantage and uploaded your profiles, we would love to see many many more of you get in on it!

Okay, here is the prompt directly from our Co-Host @nickjamesillustrator

Design a Tattoo

Almost 30 years ago at the age of 40 Nick found himself wandering the desolate city streets of Hull in north east England, and having nothing better to do, he went into a tattoo parlour and changed a small area of his skin forever. It’s time now for number two in this (very occasional) series.

Content:

He wants something that will celebrate all of the following: the love he feels for the Robot Army, His love of creativity in all media – things beautiful both concrete and abstract, His belief in a rich, diverse, inclusive, positive, future as intelligence evolves, perhaps in non human ways. And as a homage to Douglas Adams please include the number 42 somewhere in the design.

Style:

These thoughts give an indication of direction, not too rigid. Tattoo no 1 is not relevant – it’s hardly visible and no where close. Nick loves drawings that tell a story. He loves line drawings, especially in monochrome ink. But if your style isn’t monochrome ink, don’t let that stop you, he’s looking for inspiration and it can be in any medium.

Prizes:

$50 cash prize for the winner as voted by the robot army; $25 cash prize for the one Nick chooses to have tattooed on his arm. These prizes may both go to the same or different entries.

Fun fact – Nick also writes silly poems and serious essays. Here is a link to one where he talks about tattoos on Substack (audio and written) – The bit about tattoos is quite near the end.
